Join us.

We are delighted to welcome new playing members to the Albury Wodonga Symphony Orchestra! AWSO is a community of passionate musicians, committed to creating a dynamic and engaging musical environment. Joining the orchestra is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with fellow musicians, perform inspiring repertoire, and be part of the cultural vibrancy of the Albury Wodonga region.

At AWSO, we strive for a well-balanced and harmonious ensemble. Although we would love to welcome every musician who applies, due to the specific number of instruments required for a balanced orchestra, membership spots can be competitive for some sections.

What standard should I be?

The Albury Wodonga Symphony Orchestra recommends a minimum standard of AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent to ensure a high level of performance and effective collaboration within the orchestra. This standard helps maintain the quality and cohesion of the group as we work on a wide range of orchestral repertoire.

We recommend that applicants have developed the playing maturity, technical and reading skills necessary for advanced ensemble playing. This helps maintain a focused and collaborative rehearsal environment.

Do I need to audition?

No formal audition is required to join AWSO. Instead, our committee reviews applications to ensure the orchestra maintains a well-balanced sound and cohesive structure. While we do our best to accommodate all musicians, availability in certain sections may be limited due to instrument requirements.

I don’t want to play in the orchestra, but would still like to become a member.

If you don’t play an instrument but would still like to be involved, we offer a non-player membership for those who want to support AWSO and contribute to our success.

We value a diverse range of skills, including administration, event planning, finance, governance and compliance, marketing, fundraising, community engagement, and law. By becoming a non-player member, you can play a vital role in helping the orchestra thrive and continue to bring inspiring music to our community.
